Force Is a Behavior
Every jump, hop, or pull is a negotiation between the athlete and the floor. Force plates capture how that negotiation happens over time—not whether the outcome looked good.
Jump height is an outcome.
Impulse, rate of force development, and propulsive/braking strategies are behaviors.
Outcomes can stay the same while behaviors drift—and that’s usually where problems start.
Symmetry Isn’t the Goal
Perfect left-right symmetry is rare in sport.
What matters is whether asymmetry is:
Stable over time
Context-specific
Responsive to training load
Chasing symmetry for its own sake can erase an athlete’s preferred solution rather than improve it.

What “normal” looks like for that athlete
How they respond to stress
When a change is meaningful versus noise
Force plates shine when they’re used to track trends, not to label athletes.
